How to Make a Neutral Room Work

Everyone has their own style of design they gravitate to… bright and splashy with colors and patterns galore, minimal and paired down to the essentials, soft and cozy in a monochromatic color palette, there are too many to name!

While I love them all, I always seem to lean to a neutral space with just enough oomph to stand out but still soft and light. There’s a trick to getting an all neutral room to work and not look bland.

Picking shades within the same color family help. I wouldn’t suggest picking all the exact same shade of beige or gray but rather mixing the different shades and tones together to create a sophisticated color palette.

Another must when designing a neutral space…texture! You need to add fabrics and furnishings with different textures to create interest. Soft chenilles balance out light linens, embroidered fabrics help add a little something, varying shades of wood tones are a plus and always a touch of a natural element such as rattan, jute, or wicker will elevate a neutral room.
